A man rents a dilapidated apartment to film people living in the opposite building in sexual situations, with help from a pornographer. When that fails, he joins a social experiment to teach white Americans how it feels to be black.
Aspiring adult film-maker Jon Rubin returns from a tour of Vietnam and, armed with his film camera, attempts to find meaning and inspiration in the counter-culture of New York in 1970. Rubin graduates from surreptitiously filming his neighbours, to joining a militant Black experimental theatre group, before flirting with full-scale domestic terrorism, in this hilariously madcap satire that has still retained its outrageous power to shock, fifty years after initially stunning American audiences.
