Éléonore drives West. Her car breaks down in the middle of Brittany, France. She rents a bungalow on a campsite with a view of the lake, in which, it is said, lives a legendary beast. From mobile home to mobile home, she observes the present, summons the past and lets herself be invaded by fiction.
Marching to the beat of its own off-kilter drum, Eléonore Saintagnan’s mood-piece of a directorial debut is, in her own words, not about the lake creature, “but the pleasure of storytelling.” Taking an almost ornithological approach to its subjects, Camping du Lac traces the movement, rituals and rhythms of a rural French community, embracing the traditions of myth-making, fantasy and existentialism along the way. A playful meditation on the stories we create and the rituals that shape us, Saintagnan’s film perfectly embodies TFFF’s fascination with cinema that exists somewhere between folkore, observation and imagination.
This UK Premiere will also be preceeded a screening of 'Ver-vert', and a video Q&A with director Eléonore Saintagnan.
